Computer Data Recovery Was Not Always This Easy
Article By: Vince Godfrey
You’d probably not think it but in today's Computerworld we take a lot for granted. Such as the undelete button, the recycle bin and the countless undo’s stored up in the history as we work. With all these features as standard in our operating systems today and the readily available data recovery software it is very easy to restore any troublesome or lost that are experiencing. There was a time when this was not an easy task and more often than not your data was lost for good. This article displays the difficulties that computer users once had and shows us that computer software and computer data recovery has come a long way making our lives a lot easier. So next time you want to throw your computer out the window in frustration just stop and think about how truly difficult it once was for computer users.
The days prior to effective computer data recovery, lost files on your computer were pretty much gone for good. This resulted in one of the worst depressions within the world of IT and technology as office workers and computer users everywhere knew that once their data had been deleted…it was truly gone. This tremendous user-unfriendly nature of computer use was distilling a deep loathing towards the sphere of computers and technology. This was up until a brave morning when a group of computer technicians in a computer lab program the first software that would make the possibility of effective computer data recovery very real and provided the ability to recover lost files from certain doom.
A World Before The “Recycle Bin”
Before computer data recovery saved the day, computer users everywhere had to exercise extreme caution around the dreaded “delete” key. Files would disappear, applications would be gone forever, and all of the top scores from favorite video games would be doomed to obscurity. It was a trying time for computer users and businesses as the pure fear from accidentally deleting a file ran rampant in homes and offices everywhere.
In those days, the only thing that could be done was to hope that the “undo” key or the “restore” command would actually function and be able to bring back the files that were deleted or lost. Often at times, however, this just wasn’t good enough and was a continuous frustration for computer users. A group of highly motivated IT lab technicians were very aware of this and tirelessly worked, twenty-four-seven, on the ultimate software tool that would aid computer users around the world and save the entire wealth of data and information about there from the possible threat of permanent deletion.
The concept of designing a program or set of programs that could go “beyond the computer” and rescue the files from the hard drive was at first dismissed as “crazy”. But the IT lab technicians persisted and eventually, after what seemed like eternity, the program was born. The code was written to accurately locate the lost files and recover them back, quite literally, from the hard disks surface. The thought was that if the files were out there, they could be found and if the files could be found, they could be brought back!
Computer Data Recovery Programs Flourished…
Over the years to follow hyped up data recovery programs flooded on to the marketplace with their high promises of data recovery. Most of these programs managed to deliver on their promise and computer users were gradually becoming more confident when using computers as they felt that their files, once deleted, could reliably come back and be restored. Computer data recovery achieved in providing computer users a virtual safety net and thus peace of mind so using computers actually became fun again. The creators of computer data recovery programs became minor celebrities for a short while. But this fame came crashing down when something called a “virus” shadowed the computer world again and suddenly the IT technicians disappeared back into their labs looking for the solution to this new problem in the computer world.
