At some point you are going to need your computer repaired. Hardware and software issues will always happen at some point. Close to half if not more of all computer repair jobs have to do with removing spyware or viruses from computers. It’s sad but many people are misinformed and don’t bother to get protection. They think things like I only go on trusted websites. Well even trusted websites get hacked. Trend Micro is on of the leading manufacturers of anti-virus and anti-spyware software and they were just hacked a few weeks back.

Even if your still not convinced you don’t visit sites that may be infected think of this. Do you use any search engines like Google or Yahoo? If so then just clicking on one of those links can get you infected if you are not protected. I once did a search for a software driver on a computer we just loaded up a new operating system on. I punched in the part number and clicked the first link. I was not even online more then 10 seconds before I was hit with the virtumonde Virus. I ended up having to spend the next two hours repairing the system.

There are three things you computer can not be without. Those three must haves are a good firewall a good anti-virus client and a lastly spyware protection. I’m not knocking free software but there is not one free anti-virus client that can match the protection of most paid software. Every year you have to pay to re-new your client software. If not then you are leaving yourself open to all the latest threats.

For the most part people do have an anti-virus client installed and by default in XP and Vista you have a firewall. The one thing most people skip out on is spyware protection. Spyware is more prevalent on the net nowadays then viruses are. Rather then just crashing your system, why not have a thousand pop-ups and push fake anti-virus software onto people? Go out and pay the 3o bucks for an anti-spyware program. If you need virus protection and a firewall then add anther 20 bucks onto that and you’re good to go.
